What About Me?!

A Very Happy Camper

#1 Star Trek was thoroughly enjoyable. *big grin* I did not expect the plotline at all, and although there were a few snags, I felt overall it was a great addition to the Star Trek Universe. I may even go see it again!

#2 My sweetie loves me so much that he went back to get popcorn from the concession stand at the risk of missing the first couple of minutes of the movie. He also shared his peanut M&Ms. And rubbed my feet last night. And brought me a warming pillow. Isn't he the best?

#3 The progressive dinner last night was just splendid! I love this bunch of people! 1 of them, I'd met only twice before, and I'd never met her husband. Man, it was like we'd all known each other for ages -- lots of raucous laughter & fun. I look forward to doing it again!

#4 Since we had the progressive dinner last night, the house is pretty much ready to go (minus a few dishes that need to be put in the dishwasher) for an impromptu brunch for my mom-in-law who should be arriving in about an hour.

Life is good.

Let the geeking begin

Tonight, we're heading out to see the new Star Trek movie. I am looking forward to it tremendously & am absolutely thrilled that Rotten Tomatoes has given it a whopping 95%. We'd decided we were going to see it, regardless of any bad reviews, just because we really enjoy the whole Star Trek universe. Heck, I remember it being a treat as a child, to stay up late and watch Star Trek with my parents, on Channel 3. (Yes, kids, this was before remotes & our TV actually had a dial, no remote control, and an antenna!) Man, when Jerry Lewis had that telethon that interrupted my viewing of Star Trek, I learned to dislike him immensely. But I digress. The point is that I've been watching Star Trek in some form or another for many, many years. My apartment in the mid 1990's was referred to by many of my friends as "The Nexus". LOL. Anyway, we're going to see it tonight & I fully expect to be wowed.



I'll let you know how it is.

Experimenting with acrylic

Not nails ... an acrylic album! I finally got all of my stuff in the right place & started putting an album together to commemorate our 4th of July weekend visit to my aunt, uncle, and cousin last year, who live in/near Minneapolis/St. Paul! Here it is!



It required a lot of thought and planning, keeping in mind what would be showing through on the back side (double sided patterned paper did make that part easier), and I had to forego using my fave embellishment: mini-brads, both because I couldn't punch through the acrylic, and also because I was concerned the brad-heads would make an impact on the opposite page, given the weight of the acrylic "sheets". Still, a fun project!

I'd rate this book 5 stars if not for the very confusing first 80 pages or so. I was completely expecting the book to pick up where the first book left off & instead, it starts with a totally new character, who also isn't mentioned on the back cover. It took me a while to dredge up memories of Jordan Truehelm & figure out how some of the pieces of the story connected. There was also (IMHO) an excessive amount of description of ship "action," which I tended to gloss over & then have to go back to re-read to understand in full. Overall, though, I was happy with the storyline & am looking forward to the next book!
