An eye on the sky
This week is crazy-busy! My work schedule is totally packed ... we have lots of social plans (a good thing, but it lends to the sense of busy-ness!) ... and we're constantly keeping an eye on the weather. Why are we so interested in the weather? Simple ... because as of last Saturday, my sweetie's car isn't safe to drive in the rain, because the driver's side windshield wiper mechanism is busticated!! The poor Honda Civic is now about 13 years old & it also needs new CV boots & an air filter & transmission flush ... so, rather than spend $900 to keep it limping along, we've decided to go looking for a new car. We just have to plan around precipitation, which means I'll have to give him a ride to and from work. We dodged a bullet today ... and tomorrow looks clear, and our plan is to look for a car on Saturday! Anyone have any experiences with recent models of Honda Civic Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid, or Toyota Prius? They're at the top of our list to try!

Another emotional rollercoaster ... and another overwhelming feeling of sadness
Birthmother #4 has viewed our profile & "went with another family." I just keep remembering The Emperor's New Groove when Kuzko is firing Ezma ... "We're going in another direction," "We're not picking up your option," etc. I'm trying to see some humor in this, but it's really hard. We're both very sad. And both wounded enough that we're not much help to each other while we're in pain. It's really hard. It's all very out of our control & decidedly un-fun.

Our adoption mini-profile is LIVE!
Our adoption agency, LSSI, has created a section of their website that has waiting families listed. Our picture is up, along with a brief description of what dream about when we think about being parents. If you wouldn't mind sharing the link with folks you know, we'd really appreciate it. You can link them back to this specific post, or you can just send the link (http://www.adoptionillinois.org/MeetFamiliesWaitingToAdopt.html) along to anyone you feel comfortable sending it to! We've been hoping for this for more than two years & have been on the active waiting list for just over a year. We don't know how this will all turn out, but we want to do everything we can to fulfill our dreams of building a family through adoption. Thanks for all of your support, prayers, blessings, and just good vibes!

Worth 8 1/2 minutes of your time, in my opinion
Matt Weinstein makes some important points about living life to the fullest, even in the face of life-altering news. I really like his references to Epictetus, the ancient Greek philosopher.

It may not look like much ...
... but I'm pretty damned proud. It's my first full-fledged attempt at crocheting.
I finished it while at my parents' house, celebrating my mom's birthday. She said she loved the colors, so I left it with her. It's supposed to be a trivet ... but I'm not sure if the yarn is heat-resistant, so I told her to just use it for dishes that might have condensation that would damage the tabletop.
