I have to say that I count myself very blessed upon reading the journaling prompt for today -- I really had to stretch to think about a less-than-ideal Christmas! And it was very interesting to rummage through my head and not only find a grand total of 3 (I think that's pretty damned impressive!), but also to realize that there was a pattern to them. So, rather than talk about one less-than-ideal and one good Christmas, as Shimelle suggested, I went a slightly different direction. Here is my journaling:
"I’ve made it to 37 years of age and can recall only 3 Christmases that were less-than-ideal. The one element that all of them have in common was the fact that I felt out of synch with the people around me. In two cases, I felt awkward of being thrust into a new family dynamic I didn’t know how to navigate, and in the third, I was sad at being abandoned to decorate a tree on my own.
The remaining 92% of my Christmases have been simply glorious, most likely because they met my very simple needs of being able to connect to the ones I love and to feel like we all want to enrich one another’s holiday. Last year’s Christmas was pretty close to perfect: After Ken & I opened gifts, we relaxed while we called family & friends. On impulse, we invited Jason over & we spent the remainder of the day playing Arkham Horror! Definitely not “traditional,” but a wonderful way to connect and to make merry!"
I give my family & friends an "A+" at the holidays!!!!
